The Square (Ruben Östlund, 2017)

Inspired in part by an actual art installation, The Square depicts the personal struggles of a Stockholm art curator (Claes Bang) to show trust, care, and understanding to those in his life while professionally promoting a new exhibition about these very values. Along the way he confronts his own animal instincts when an attempt to recover a lost cell phone leads to the dehumanization of a young boy. As in his previous film, Force Majeure, director Ruben Östlund holds a mirror to polite society and asks us not to turn away when we see ourselves. Elizabeth Moss costars in this Palme d’Or winner at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Free and open to the public. Directions and map available at http://www.eckerd.edu/directions
